Take a tour of Yael’s honey farm in Kedumim, vandalized by Arabs.
I met with Yael Farbstein of Kedumim last week. Her story really touched my heart, as much as it resonated with many Israel365 friends. Yael became a victim of Arab terrorism, when vandals entered her factory, stole precious equipment and caused extensive damage. Worst of all, the thieves ran off with every last jar of her family’s award-winning honey — an entire season’s worth of labor.
As if that wasn’t enough, the vandals returned the next Shabbat and plugged up the hives remaining in the fields, leaving the bees to die in the summer heat.
We reached out to the Israel365 community, and the response was tremendous!
I personally went to Kedumim last week to hand-deliver your donations to Yael. She was so appreciative. She gave me a tour of her honey farm, and showed me the extent of the damage. As she showed me around the beehives, all I could see were the piles of dead bees on the ground. Her opportunity to bounce back to her feet has clearly been stymied. I realized that so much more needs to be done.
The cost of a honeycomb box filled to capacity with thousands of bees is $500. Yael had hundreds of thousands of bees, and her honeycomb boxes are now empty or left with only a few hundred bees.
Rosh Hashana is just a few weeks away. It is the holiday associated with honey, as Jews around the world dip apples in honey and eat sweet dishes as an omen for a sweet new year. While Yael will not be able to enjoy her honey, or sell it during the honey season here in Israel, we can help sweeten her year by showing her that people all over the world support her holy work.
Please support our campaign to refill her honeycomb boxes with bees, and help make the land once again flow with milk and honey. Though we can’t offer you any of Yael’s honey, donate $125 or more and we will send you a gift of a bottle of honey from the Land of Israel.
