Gesher Award for Academic Excellence in the field of Cancer Research
Gesher (Grant to Support Homecoming and Research) Awards are aimed at encouraging young scientists to return to Israel. The ICRF has partnered with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to develop a joint program to fund outstanding returning scientists. This joint venture was developed in order to fund cancer research conducted in Israel by highly qualified returning Post-Docs and to assist them to jump-start their careers through a matching funds program which will support their research and also provide a stipend for living expenses during their employment at Israeli research institutes. The ICRF will be responsible for application review and administration of the program in cooperation with MOST. The awards are made to each sponsoring institution with the understanding that they will support a specific project that will be conducted by a particular postdoctoral scientist under the supervision of a designated sponsoring senior investigator. Gesher Awards will be given preferentially to those persons who have concluded their Doctoral dissertation no less than 2 years and no more than seven (7) years prior to the date on which the ICRF-MOST award is to begin. Applications must be submitted while the applicant is conducting research outside Israel; during the funding period, the applicant must conduct his or her research in Israel.

Research Professorship
This award will be used to support a full-time, senior faculty member, or person in an equivalent position, who has made outstanding contributions to cancer research and who will continue to provide leadership in his or her research area. The applicant must have at least eight years’ experience beyond the doctoral degree, and be no less than five years from the usual and customary age of retirement at his or her institution. Applicants are expected to provide evidence of past accomplishments and, more importantly, demonstrate potential for continued enriching contributions to the cancer research field. The research experience and interest of the applicant may be in either basic biological science or in clinical research and must relate to cancer. The Research Professorship is awarded for a period of seven (7) years at a maximum stipend of $50,000 per year.

Clinical Research Career Development Awards (CRCDAs)

These awards are intended to enhance the clinical research capabilities of young Israeli scientists in the formative phase of their careers who have demonstrated outstanding potential for contribution to clinical cancer research as independent investigators.  Their main purpose is to provide free time for young medical or pediatric oncologists to devote to clinical research projects and to obtain additional (post-fellowship) training to become a leader in clinical research programs. Candidates must have a medical degree and at least two (2) years of fellowship training in medical or pediatric hematology-oncology or a related specialty, but not more than five (5) years of subsequent relevant professional experience prior to the award commencement date. A CRCDA is limited to a single support period of three (3) years at a maximum stipend of $45,000 per year. (Past recipients are not permitted to reapply for this award.)

Preference is given to persons with more than three years of postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent experience prior to the award commencement date. Awards are made for from one (1) to two (2) years at a maximum stipend of $30,000 per year. (Current Project Grant recipients are encouraged to reapply for continued funding of the same project.
