About 50 Arabs mounted an assault on Rachel's Tomb, just outside Bethlehem, Wednesday evening. They threw pipe bombs, fire bombs and rocks at the security forces guarding the compound, injuring one soldier lightly.
The soldier, who was hit by a rock, received medical treatment on the spot and did not require hospitalization.
The IDF Spokesman said that the Arabs threw nine pipe bombs and 18 fire bombs. One of the pipe bombs caused some damage to the security wall surrounding the complex.
The IDF Spokesman said that the soldiers are using riot dispersal gear against the attackers.
In past years, any large scale attack with explosives and fire bombs would in all probability have been repelled with live fire. However, the IDF is shackled by a Military Attorney's Office and State Attorney's Office that often prosecute soldiers for opening fire against attackers unless they can prove a clear and present danger to their lives.

Palestinian Authority Arabs hurled rocks at Israeli motorists in another road terror attack on a road in eastern Gush Etzion Wednesday afternoon.
The attackers targeted vehicles with yellow Israeli license plates as they passed near the Jewish town of Tekoa.
The community, which is located next to the Arab village of Tuqua, is also close to the Herodian, a looming peak containing the tomb of the Biblical King Herod.
A number of the vehicles that were attacked sustained damage as a result. Miraculously, both drivers and passengers were physically unharmed.
Road terror is on the upswing in Judea and Samaria, and the road near Tekoa is no exception. Residents of the community have long learned the threat of Arab ambushes along the route leading to their town is an unfortunate part of frontier life in an increasingly hostile area.
Rock attacks are intended to kill. Last month a rock-throwing Arab teenager nearly succeeded in his attempt to murder Jews, when the huge rock he hurled at a car crashed a few inches from an infant passenger.
Nevertheless, mainstream Israeli media often ignore such incidents, and international media almost never report them.
More than a year ago, Arab terrorists did indeed succeed in killing Kiryat Arba resident Asher Palmer and his baby son Yonatan, both U.S. citizens, in a rock attack on Palmer’s car as he drove near Kiryat Arba-Hevron.
Police believed the ensuing crash of the vehicle to be a traffic accident until evidence published by Arutz Sheva forced them to carry out an investigation proving the incident to be a terrorist attack.
