In a recent interview, Johnny Hallyday, 69, said that he wanted to join the Israel Defence Force when the Six Day War broke out, but by the time he prepared to leave, the war was over. Hallyday is very enthusiastic about his trip to Israel, a country he says he always wanted to visit but never had the chance due to his busy schedule. - Michelle

Interview with Johnny Hallyday—100% Pro-Israel
Translation by Michelle Cohen
Interviewer: Do you know Israel?
J.H: I have a lot of Israeli friends, you know, so... and I lived for a long time with a family named Bloch. I lived with them for two years when I was younger. So I always....I always wanted to go to Israel, but the fact is I was always touring right and left and never had the occasion to visit. But now I have the opportunity to visit.
Interviewer: What will you do in Israel?
J.H.: I would like to visit the Wailing Wall, for one, because, well, it's mystical. I am atheist. I am Catholic and atheist, so I don't pay attention to religion like I don't pay attention to politics. I am a singer. I love visiting, I love seeing countries. That's it! I love people generally. I love...they can be of any religion. It's all the same to me. For me it's.......
Interviewer: What will you sing? What will be your repertoire in Israel?
J.H. Well, firstly, I think there is a large French community (yes), so I will sing for them the songs I know how to sing that they have perhaps already heard. Songs like 'That I Love You'..songs like that.
Interviewer: About the question of boycotts by certain artists...
J.H.: I am above that. I don't care! I sing...my profession is singing. I go to countries where I am welcomed, and to an audience that wants to watch me. The rest is all the same to me. I am not...I'm not a frightful individual. I'll tell them that I will go anyway, and if they are not happy, they can simply not come to the show. (laughter)
Interviewer: Thank you!
