Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman is scheduled to fly to Brussels on Monday for a meeting with European Union foreign policy head Catherine Ashton and fellow foreign ministers from European countries.
Liberman is expected to ask his counterparts to work to increase security at Jewish institutions and for Israeli tourists in their respective countries in light of last week’s deadly terror bombing at Burgas airport in Bulgaria.
The foreign minister is also expected to request that Hezbollah, the Lebanese Islamic militant group and political party, be declared a terrorist organization by the EU. Hezbollah is believed by Israeli and Bulgarian authorities to be behind the Burgas bombing, with the assistance of Iran.
Minister of Tourism Stas Misezhnikov led a delegation of top tourism officials to Bulgaria on Monday morning. They are expected to meet with their counterparts in Bulgaria and attend a commemoration ceremony for the Burgas victims.
