The Nahal Brigade marked its 30th birthday this week, and celebrated with a large scale drill that included 70 to 80 kilometers of marching through mountainous territory. The demanding exercise took place in the Golan Heights, the northern Jordan Valley (Bik'a) and elsewhere.

Brigade Commander Col. Yehuda Fuchs said that the brigade's battalions had all held "war weeks" in the past few weeks, before the brigade level drill. The training was challenging on the physical, professional and mental levels, he said, and included nighttime live fire drills, tanks, artillery and cooperation with the IAF.

The Nahal Brigade recently completed a tour of duty in Gaza for which it received high commendations, and is now entering Judea and Samaria.

The brigade was formed during the First Lebanon War.
