The White Night Tel Aviv (Layla Lavan Tel Aviv) has been taking place since being declared the White City by UNESCO in July 2003, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality’s way of marking the honor. The White Night is an annual one-night fest offering a slew of special events for the benefit of the residents and visitors of Tel Aviv. The 2012 White Night Tel Aviv is taking plac on 28 June. Below are some of this year’s highlights
White Night 2012 Highlights
Pretty well all the events at Tel Aviv White Night are free and sponsored by the Municipality. Here are some of the highlights of 2012:
- Five groups of unknown musicians will perform outside the Tel Aviv Cinemateque in the Young Band Stage event. The musicians are selected by the public on YouTube
- All night music on Tzuk Beach. It will begin with Karolina and be followed by Israeli rock sensation Danny Sanderson. Starts 1:30am
- Jean-Charles de Castelbajac will open the White Night. In Israel as part of his world tour with French band Nouvelle Vague. They will perform a mixture of musical, opera, pop, rock and theater at 9 pm. at Beit Ha’ir in Bialik Square.
- 12 bands of a various genres will perform in the open air venue of Jaffa Flea Market as part of Pishpashuk (alongside theatrical street performers, an art fair, and food specials)
- The Ozen Bar will hold a full-night marathon soundtrack parade including live performances of movie songs, followed by soundtrack karaoke
- There will be a ‘headphones party’ in Rabin Square from 8pm to 1am
- All night dancing on Gordon Beach (dress in white)
- All night long vintage sale on Dizengoff Street
- Nude modeling workshop at the Gay Community Center next to Meir Gardens
- Israeli Folk Dancing at Gordon Beach from 9pm
- A video art exhibition on the walls of the abandoned Eden Cinema. Art will be by contemporary Israeli artists from sunset to sunrise.
Starting early in the evening and before sunrise
- Earlier in the evening, for kids, there will be a sing-along in Bialik Square (6:45 pm)
- Sunrise Yoga at Tel Aviv Port (5:45 am)
