Ankara will charge Israelis for stopping illegal Gaza
flotilla, defending themselves against murderous thugs
Turkey continued its long, sad descent into political derangement on Wednesday, with the news that Ankara is planning to indict several Israelis for charges stemming from the Gaza flotilla incident two years ago.
The illegal flotilla, deliberately sent by Turkey's Islamist government in order to assist the Islamist government of Gaza, was stopped by the Israeli navy and boarded by troops armed with paint ball guns. A group of thugs then attacked the Israelis in what appeared to be a pre-planned act of violence. The Israelis defended themselves with handguns, killing several, including Turkish citizens.
Despite Turkey and Hamas' desperate attempts to claim that Israel was at fault, extensive video evidence taken by the soldiers proved that their version of the incident was accurate. Even the United Nations was forced to issue a report acknowledging that the Israelis acted in self-defense and that the Gaza blockade is legal under international law.
Turkey reacted to the incident with demented rhetoric and racist incitement, and has not stopped since. Now, however, the country has chosen to degrade its own legal system in the process.
According to the Turkish daily Sabah, Ankara's chief prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya is due to file a 144-page indictment targeting Ashkenazi, former Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin, former Israel Navy chief Eliezer Maron, and former head of Israel Air force's intelligence wing Avishai Levy over the raid on the Mavi Marmara....
The report indicated that Turkey intended to charge the former officials for ordering IDF troops to intentionally kill, wound, and abduct Turkish activists, as well as encourage their torture and loot their belongings. Turkey issued warrants against all four former Israeli officers, and they could be arrested on arrival in Turkey, the report added.
Apparently, the indictment will also be typical of the unhinged rhetoric that has issued from Turkey's Islamist government in recent years, "including historical references to the link between Turkey and Spanish Jews in the fifteenth century, as well as between Turkey and German Jewry during the Second World War."
The Netanyahu government has long made it clear that it holds Turkey responsible for the incident.
