Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called on a delegation of 20 ambassadors not to support the Palestinian Authority statehood bid at the United Nations in September.
The ambassadors were from the Washington DC embassies of nations who do not have permanent representatives in Israel.
Netanyahu said the ambassadors should not "support a resolution that could damage the possibility of a resumption of direct negotiations and the peace process. A unilateral decision at the United Nations will prevent, in the future, the necessary concessions on their side necessary for peace."
Israel's Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman called Sunday on the government to cut ties with the PA saying the statehood bid would bring about 'unprecedented violence." Lieberman previously warned the PA's unilateral steps would result in Israel exacting a diplomatic 'eye for an eye."
The delegation gathering was initiated by the Israel Project and included ambassadors from Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Burkina-Faso, Uganda, Liberia, Benin, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Belize, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Mongolia and East Timor.
