Mortars Shot Into Negev, One Person Wounded

At least four mortar shells were fired from Gaza towards Israel on Wednesday evening. The mortars exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council. One person was moderately wounded and had to be taken for treatment at the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva. The area's residents were asked to stay in protected areas in their homes.



Earlier on Wednesday a mortar shell exploded near a kibbutz in the Sha'ar HaNegev Regional Council. Damage was caused to one of the houses in the kibbutz, but nobody was hurt.
According to statistics published by the ISA earlier this week, in November there was a slight increase in the number of attacks by terrorists compared to October. In November there were 52 attacks, while 44 were recorded in October.
One of the attacks which stood out in November wasthe Grad rocket attack on November 19. The rocket was fired at the southern Israel town of Ofakim. Luckily, it hit an open field near the city and no one was hurt. The attack was the first Grad rocket shooting in the Ofakim region since the end of the Cast Lead counterterror operation in Gaza in early 2009.
The data released by the ISA shows that the highest increase in the number of attacks was in the Jerusalem area (10 terrorist attacks, compared to 6 in October) and in the area of the Gaza Strip (22 attacks compared with 18 in October). Judea and Samaria maintained the same number of attacks (20 attacks).
During the month of November five rockets and 28 mortar shells were launched towards Israel in 16 attacks. In October, three rockets and 20 mortar shells were fired in 13 attacks.
