Palestinian assailants in Samaria hurled a large cement block onto a passing Israeli vehicle during the predawn hours Thursday, seriously injuring the driver.
The car was forced off the road by the impact of the cement block. Passing motorists alerted Israeli rescue services, and the victim was quickly transferred to a hospital in Jerusalem where he was treated for a fractured skull and face.
Israeli security forces said there was evidence the attackers had come from a nearby Palestinian-controlled village, but said it was nearly impossible to accurately identify them.

A global terror risk index placed the Palestinian Authority in fifth place among the locations with the highest terror risk.
The Terrorism Risk Index (TRI), compiled by global risks advisory firm Maplecroft, places what it terms “Palestinian Occupied Territory” immediately after Somalia, Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan at the top of a list of locations with high “terrorism risks to human security and international assets.”However, it was not clear from the material made public by the advisory firm whether the risk in “Palestinian Occupied Territory” was calculated regarding people inside Hamas-controlled areas, PA/Fatah-controlled areas, and/or Israeli-controlled areas, and whether it referred to westerners, Arabs, Jews or all of these groups.
Rounding out the list of the world's ten most dangerous countries with regard to terrorism were Colombia, Thailand, the Philippines, Yemen and Russia, ranked at numbers 6 to 10, respectively.
The index used data from June 2009 to June 2010 to assess the frequency and intensity of terrorist incidents, including the number of victims per attack and the chances of mass casualties occurring.
Somalia, which was in fourth place in the 2009 index, was ranked first in 2010. It experienced 556 terrorist attacks, killing a total of 1,437 people and wounding 3,408 between June 2009 and June 2010, according to the index. It also has the highest number of deaths from terrorism per population, and surpassed Iraq and Afghanistan in the number of fatalities per terrorist attack.
Yemen made it into the "extreme risk" category for the first time this year. The country has seen a sharp increase in the number of terrorist incidents on its own soil, with a total of 109 attacks between June 2009 and June 2010. Yemen’s primary source of terrorism is Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which recently en route to the US.
