When combat soldiers from the Shimshon battalion of the Kfir Brigade received a report about shootings east of Shechem last weekend (Nov. 20-21), they were sure it must have been an act of terrorism. Much to their surprise, when they arrived on scene, they discovered it had been a case of illegal hunting, the suspects three Palestinian men.

As a result of the IDF’s quick action and the cooperation with the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority, the suspects were caught and arrested. “We found a dead deer in the back of the car, the three hunters and their illegal hunting weapons,” said Capt. David Fadida, the company commander. “This is the second illegal hunting incident we’ve been able to catch in the last two months and we will continue our cooperation with the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority in order to protect animals in the area.”

The three Palestinians arrested admitted to hunting the deer for the holiday Eid al-Adha and they will be tried for hunting and for illegal possession of weapons. As a such, in preparation for the holiday Eid al-Adha, the IDF will be on high alert for illegal hunting in the Samaria region, the activity seeing an increase around the time of this holiday. “IDF forces and the Israeli Civil Administration together double the forces specifically allocated to illegal hunting and those working against harming nature in general,” said inspector of the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority in Samaria, Moti Shefi. “There is no justification for this hunting. I am glad the IDF helped us catch these hunters in the act.”
