AMERICAN ISRAELIS CONGRATULATE VICTORS IN U.S. ELECTIONS; SEE GREAT NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR PEACE IN MIDDLE EAST; LAUD TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ABSENTEE VOTERS
AIAC is a non-partisan, non-political, issue-oriented NGO whose purpose is to represent a united voice of the more than 250,000 Americans living in Israel on issues which affect Israel, Israel-U.S. relations, and the Jewish people worldwide.
“The election results signal a watershed event in the American political scene,” stated AIAC Chairman Harvey Schwartz. “Hopefully the new Congress will rapidly take the steps necessary to cure the ills in the U.S. economy, which can inure to the benefit not only of the U.S. citizenry, but world economies as well.”
“It is heartening that tens of thousands of American Israelis responded to AIAC’s ‘Get Out the Vote’ campaign by casting absentee ballots,” continued Chairman Schwartz. “It is most important that the governments of both the Unites States and Israel recognize that there is a very large – and ever growing – group of American voters residing in Israel who can have a significant impact upon the 2012 and later U.S. elections.”
Schwartz also noted that the incoming U.S. Congress – which will be most favorable to Israel as a friend and important U.S. ally – may cause President Obama to tone down his negative sentiments towards Israel. “This is a golden opportunity to achieve a comprehensive – rather than merely a limited – peace in the Middle East,” added Chairman Schwartz. “Hopefully the Israeli government will seize this opportunity to works towards achieving that so-far elusive goal.”
Aaron Tirschwell, AIAC’s Executive Director, noted that “one other significant result of the elections is the total loss of influence of J Street, the radical George Soros and Arab supported anti-Israel lobbying group which President Obama had sought to inaugurate as the recognized spokesman for American Jews. It proved to be a total bust in having any influence in the outcome of any of the elections. Hopefully, President Obama will now recognize that he was backing the wrong horse and that his strong efforts to elevate J Street were harmful and counterproductive. J Street may have finally breathed its last breath, which would only redound to the benefit of the United States, Israel and the Jewish people.”
